Can be philosophy a therapy? If philosophy is really a therapy, then what is its primary therapeutical methods? The purpose of the paper is to examine the nature of philosophical therapy and main tasks for it to be rooted in reality by figuring out its what-side and how-side.
In this paper, firstly, I shall examine the nature of philosophical therapy by focusing its aim, objects, and methods. Secondly, I shall I shall argue that the main object of philosophical therapy is philosophical disease or normal person, not a patient, who suffers from the disease, and suggests its characteristics, and we have approach it in ontological, epistemic, logic, ethical, and aesthetic dimensions. Also, I shall perform preliminary stages for understanding the identity of philosophical therapy by examining disease classification systems and therapeutic dimensions.
Thirdly, I suggest self-referential, independent and autonomous, teleological characteristics as indicators of identity of philosophical therapy and three principles of philosophical therapyembodiment principle, transcendence principle, and purpose-relativity principle. Also I suggest my teleological model as a concrete example of philosophical therapy, Here I shall argue that while medical and psychological therapies rely mainly on causation, philosophical therapy takes a teleological approach by emphasizing the telos of life.
Lastly, I shall I shall deal with urgent methodological problems for present Korean philosophical therapy society. In order to achieve its aim, our society have to prepare not only some institutional agenda which are necessary for agenda to put down its roots in reality such as therapeutic models, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic techniques, but also cooperative relation in other adjacent fields such as literature, history, arts, and psychology.
